Lexus LFR prototype sounds like a V8 Mustang
Toyota and Lexus have been working on their next flagship sports car for a while now. The new coupe, dubbed the Lexus LFR, was last spotted in California, testing alongside a Mercedes-AMG GT R.
You can also catch the LFR prototype or the ‘Toyota GT Concept’, as it is called, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend. 3-time Le Mans winner Kazuki Nakajima will be driving the LFR up the hill. Yesterday, on the first run, we got to hear the new V8 engine properly for the first time. Doesn’t it sound like a V8 muscle car?
Toyota hasn’t revealed any details of the new powertrain yet. However, reports suggest that the LFR will use a brand-new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 paired with a hybrid system. The internal combustion engine is said to produce around 720 hp, while the hybrid will provide another 180 hp.
The LFR road car was followed by its GT3-spec racing version. The loud rumble we hear in the video is most likely from the race car.
