BMW M3 CS Touring slides and crashes into the hay bales at Goodwood

The new BMW M3 CS Touring was showcased at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year. It was merely for a static display, but was driven up the hill multiple times over the course of the event. However, a crash during one of its runs meant it had to pull out of the event early.

The M3 CS Touring scampered off the starting line before braking for the first corner. The tail stepped out in typical BMW fashion just as the driver dropped the anchors and rotated. Unfortunately, the exciting oversteer moment quickly turned into an uncontrolled slide.

The driver tried to countersteer, and as the tyres touched the grass, the car darted off to the other side and into the hay bales. The barriers did a good job of cushioning the impact. As you can see, the car only suffered minor bodywork damage.

Launched in January this year, the M3 CS Touring is a lightweight and sportier version of the already sporty M3 Touring. It features a carbon fibre hood, front splitter, air intakes, mirrors and a carbon diffuser, resulting in a weight reduction of 15 kg.

Powering the M3 CS Touring is a 3.0-liter twin-turbo 6-cylinder engine that produces 543 BHP and 479 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to all four wheels. In this case, the car was probably in rear-wheel drive mode and had the DSC turned off.
